Learn how to load your own sample hits, sounds and drum loops into Logic Pro's powerful drum synthesizer Ultrabeat.
In this tutorial you will learn how to assign individual samples and sounds from your own personal sound library and sample collection into the Ultrabeat drum synthesizer in Logic Pro.
Ultrabeat is far more than a simple sample player as it uses synthesis techniques to manipulate sounds. It also act as a sound creation tool using base oscillators such as sine waves to generate percussive and synth textures. These features make Ultrabeat extremely powerful, but in turn can be a little daunting to approach with its elaborate design.
Step 1In the channel section of the software instrument inspector in the arrange page, click on the I/O menu and select Ultrabeat (drum synth). You can also select whether you want the synth to be stereo or multiple output at this stage.
Step 2On the interface for the Ultabeat plugin, click on the region into which you would like to insert your sound. In the example below the lowest region (Kick 1) is the sound to be replaced with a custom sample.
Step 3On your QWERTY keyboard hold down the control (ctrl) key and click on the region you have selected. From the resulting pull down menu, select Init>Sample in order to change the functionality of your selected region to read samples.
Step 4In the lower synthesis section of Ultrabeat, click on the sample tab.
Step 5To the top of the resulting mini display, you will see a section stating 'No Sample Loaded'. Click on this and select Load Sample from the resulting pull down menu.
Step 6Navigate the resulting browser to the location of your desired sound and click OK.
Step 7You will now see the waveform of your selected sample in the mini display on Ultrabeat. Click on the musical keyboard to the side of the sample to check that the sound is uploaded correctly.
