Download classic drum samples and sounds from the all analogue drum machine, the Simmons SDS-V to use in your Logic Pro or Logic Express songs.
In 1981 the world of live drum performance changed with the introduction of an all new percussive analogue synth, the Simmons SDS-V. With a series of drum style hexagonal pads attached to a 'brain' analogue synth, the Simmons kit became a stage icon for 80's electronic and pop acts. It's unique sound and ability to actually be played by a drummer rather than sounds simply being tapped in with buttons or sequenced gave this setup priority for live bands wanting to retain a true synth sound whilst retaining the energy of performance.
Developed by Richard James Burgess, the Simmons kit was originally made from extremely hard plastic shells, with a hexagonal design based on the interlocking properties of a honeycomb. Various other shapes were tried including bat wings and even faces, but the hexagonal shape (thankfully) won through giving a futuristic and sleek image.
The original SDS-V came with three toms, a bass drum and a snare. Additional hi-hat modules could be added to complete the analogue drum brain. In order to make programming the sounds simple for people not used to the concepts of analogue synhesis, presets were included on each of the modules so drummers could get straight into playing electronic grooves
