This tutorial explores a useful feature in Logic pro which is designed to speed up your workflow and provide producers with hands on control over their arrange page automation parameters by assigning a single controller fader, button or rotary encoder to manipulate the displayed automation parameter on a selected track.
Step 1Click the Logic Pro menu at the top of your screen and navigate to Preferences>Automation
Step 2In the resulting window, Navigate to the Automation Quick Access section and click on Learn Message

Step 4When the controller has been set, click Done. You can now close the automation preferences window.
Step 5In the Arrange page, click on the Automation icon at the top of the page in order to view the automation data on your selected track.
Step 6The fader you have allocated to the Automation Quick Access will now control any automation parameter displayed on the selected track.
In order to record any changes using your hardware controller, first activate the Touch feature on the channel section by clicking on it and navigating the resulting menu to Touch.
Step 7Finally to record your automation changes
(i) click Play
(ii) Move the controller you have assigned to Automation Quick Access

Note: TO disable the fader from making further changes whilst keeping the Automation data in tact, repeat Step 6 and select "Read" from the menu.
