Make Your Own Groove Templates in Logic Pro

Logic Tutorials, 03 June 2010

Learn how to create a custom Quantize in Logic Pro which you can use as a groove template for your tracks. In this example, the MPC 3k Style grooves available here at Logic Café in the download section are used.

These quantizes will enable any recorded MIDI event to be quantized to the feel of the classic MPC 3000 drum machine. You can apply this lesson to any of the Groove Templates available here at logic-cafe.com or even try making your own from MIDI performances. The lesson works with any object on the Arrange page which contains MIDI note data.

Step 1:

Click on the track or folder in the arrange page that you wish to use as your Groove template in order to select it.

Step 2:

In the gray parameters box to the left of the screen, click on the Quantize section. From the resulting menu, scroll down to the bottom and select Make Groove Template.

Step 3:

Now you can apply the newly created quantizes to your tracks. They will appear in the same quantize menu within Logic as the default quantizes.

Note: The original object you clicked on in Step 1 needs to be in your song for the quantizes to remain in the menu. You can mute and hide the track if you wish to ignore it in your arrange page.
Enjoy!
